Term 4, Week 1, 2022
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4. I hope that you had a good holiday break with your child(ren). Talking with the children over the first couple of days, some said they went away, some did day trips and some just stayed at home or had play dates with friends. Most indicated that they had a good break but are happy to be back at school for our final term. Many were excited to see and try out our new path that runs through the school grounds.
We welcome a new student in Reception, Caelan, and his family into our school community. We hope your time with us is full of learning, friendships and fun! Please remember that Lisa Daniele is still on leave and will return in Week 4. Charli Poole will continue on the front desk until Lisa returns. Sadly, we farewell Deakin in Year 6 on Friday. We wish his family all the best as they relocate to the country. We thank you for the contribution you have made to our school community during your time with us.
On Monday of this week we had a Pupil Free Day with the staff spending the day reflecting on the sharing of Scripture Stories using a process called ‘Godly Play’. This is a way of sharing the various bible stories using manipulatives and props and actually telling the story from memory, rather than just reading from the bible. It also involves the listener in the story and challenges them with questions like “I wonder what happens next” or “I wonder where I am in this story” or “I wonder what the message is from this story”, etc. It was an excellent day and I thank Melissa Musolino for her organisation.
There are a number of events happening this term so please continue to check the newsletter and Seesaw for details. Sports Day is coming up in Week 6 (Fri 25 November) and in preparation for this the children can wear a t-shirt in their team colour each Friday from Week 1 to Week 6. Some children will also attend the SACPSSA Athletics Carnival on Friday 2 December.
This coming Thursday 27 October the Year 2 to 5 children will attend the local T-Ball competition at Ridley Reserve. They will walk to and from the reserve via Harvey Road.
There are some class excursions planned, a sleepover, a school disco, the Police Band will be visiting and the great “SMM’s Got Talent” competition will take place. We will also have some Christmas Carols and the Year 6 Graduation. Throw Reports into the mix and it all promises to be a very busy and fast paced 9 weeks.
Next Friday, 28 October, is World Teacher’s Day with the theme “Hats off to teachers”. Following on from what I have mentioned above, it is important that we do acknowledge the work that our teachers, co-educators and office staff do each day. It is an extremely demanding job and our staff do a great job in caring for our young people, helping them to learn, to develop positive relationships and to be good citizens. We take seriously sharing this role with you the parents. I encourage you over the next week, but particularly on Friday, to say thank you to your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and other staff for the work that they do.
Please remember that students are expected to wear their school hat during the lunch breaks and at other times when they are outdoors. Not having a school hat will mean they need to sit out during play time. Parents, please ensure that your child has a school hat and that it is clearly named.

Starting off with a Whole School Liturgy students engaged with the Gospel Story from Matthew about how we can be of Service to each other. But how do we show Mercy in our daily lives… We look to the Mercy Values of our School Community to guide us in all things we do.
Courage is about being courageous (in taking a stand) for yourself, for others and for the environment. It could be, attempting difficult tasks, changing your behaviour, taking action against injustice, or tackling a personal difficulty.
Respect is about recognising the gifts and talents of the people around you. It is also about being responsible for our own actions and our own choices.
Compassion is about loving and caring for your family and friends, and about showing kindness to people who are feeling sad or upset to help them feel better. The mercy value of compassion is about feeling that you can make a difference.
Social justice is about being responsible for one another and trying our best to be fair by taking our turn and sharing. It is about trying to make sure everyone is treated fairly and justly.
Service is about helping others. You help others because it is what God wants you to do, and you don’t ask for pocket money or some other reward in return.
Hospitality is about making people feel welcome- whether it is someone new or someone you have known for a long time.
5/6 Market Day Stalls
The 5/6 Market Day Stalls were fantastic and the students worked very hard in designing activities, promoting, and conducting their stalls.
They collectively raised $237.35!! A huge effort.
But where is the money going???
The money raised during the Market Day Stall event will be going to Catherine House which is an organisation in the city that offers crisis, longer term accommodation and support services for women experiencing homelessness in South Australia. Catherine House Inc was started in 1988, by the Sisters of Mercy to address an unmet need for women experiencing homelessness in Adelaide. Catherine House can now accommodate up to 59 women.
The Colour Run
And then there was The Colour Run! The smiles, laughter, and joy were contagious as well as the colour. Here are some happy snaps of this very bright part of the day!!!
